I decided that I want to have a 3D hand coming out of the computer in my animation, but you may ask “it’s only on screen for a few seconds at the end, why would you make one from scratch?”.
The answer to that is I’d feel I was cheating myself if I didn’t make my own and honestly getting stuff to look good in Maya is sooooooo satisfying.
So below are some progress pictures from the last two days. This probably took around 8-9 hours (yes I know that’s a while but I encountered a few issues) and still needs a few tweaks but I’m pretty proud of it.
I really love modeling when I actually get my act together and do it myself!
(making the palm of the hand as a base to build from)
(attaching the wrist- there was a lot of editing here to make the edges bridge well)
(fingers and thumbs- the fingers are copied & pasted then resized and shaped, a great time saving technique)
(attaching the thumb)
(final hand in flat shading)
(final hand in smooth shading)
we were introduced to ZBrush on Tuesday so I went home and downloaded Sculptris (the free version woooo) and made this one evening. It’s obviously not finished but I’ve been enjoying learning how to sculpt so far.
Had to make it somewhat interesting so I went with some elf ears (although they looked like very Shrek-like ears for a while)
okayyyyy, had some issues but the lighting looks alright- BUT WHERE ARE THE SHADOWS?!?!?!
tune in next time to find out (because I have no idea what is going on)
(I need to figure out this disgusting gif quality issue)
So- here is the inbetweened animation (some other touch-ups may occur depending on time). I would have had a better lit version but as Maya likes to crash that hasn’t happened yet, so I’m now off to sort that out
Finally finished the blocking so I can now take this off stepped and see what a mess of an animation I have to inbetween
finally fixed my photoshop gif issues *phew*
